Tommy See Poy
Well known keyboard man, Tommy See Poy, has been thrilling audiences in and around Cairns for over two decades. After spending several years in Sydney in the early eighties, he headed overseas to perform in some of the finest hotels in Asia. Well received in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, Tommy headed to Seoul on the South Korean peninsular where he performed with some of the finest musicians on the planet.
Since returning to North Queensland in the late 90's, he has re-established his reputation for excellence in Jazz piano performance. Tommy attracts the finest musicians Cairns has to offer as is evident in his 10 year residency at the Cairns Casino on Thursday Nights, where he leads the exciting Salsa band, the Latin Jazz Excursion.
Tommy's talents extend past his live performances to include song writing, arranging, teaching, recording and consultancy. Sought after in both recording studios and as pianist with touring bands, Tommy's expertise and calm demeanor in most situations gives one the feeling that if he's on the gig, all will be well.
Everyone should read this:
The first people to understand how music really works were the ancient Greeks. And this is
going to fascinate you; the Greeks said that music and astronomy were two sides of the same
coin. Astronomy was seen as the study of relationships between observable, permanent,
external objects, and music was seen as the study of relationships between invisible, internal,
hidden objects. Music has a way of finding the big, invisible moving pieces inside our hearts
and souls and helping us figure out the position of things inside us.
